Muizenberg huts

Muizenberg huts by Rhodentette.
This was what I saw when I stopped my car at my basecamp this afternoon. Pretty colourful bathing huts against the inclement sky. It was picturesque. So I took a picture.

i ' ve seen those colours on cluttered kindergarten play pens. never beautifully stand alone like this against an alluring backdrop.! you maximising the skyscape has done the trick. superb composition chickkoo.. if i were wearing a hat now, i would' ve lifted it for you.

To my eyes the phone's perspective when uncropped looks like the equivalent of about 28mm. It's pretty wide.

I think I owe Alan a great debt of gratitude for finally bringing me around to post-processing my pictures. I think if I'd posted the original, it wouldn't even have rated a view!

I'm currently experiencing a paradigm shift about processing pictures after the fact. :)

A little tip: If you want to take pictures without the noise but still retain the detail, put it on sequence mode and self timer. Then put your N73 on something sturdy that can hold it to the position you want. This will take 6 pictures that you can average later to remove the noise. This technique can really make your pictures print worthy. Not that it's not print worthy already. ;)

K.Swiss - thank you! :) Those bathing huts are quite something else to see in the winter. So bright, and it seems to be the only thing the local municipality keeps painted and maintained along that beachfront.

Chantelle - I'm ashamed to say I don't really get out Muizenberg way very much at all, and even then I'm usually driving past those huts rather than stopping to take pictures. Good thing I have a job that requires a lot of staying put in pretty locations. :)

Thank you, jaroslavd. Yup, I definitely see the benefit of post processing pictures now. My training as a journalist always left me feeling somewhat scandalised when people manipulated their images afterwards, but now I see how incredibly parochial that view is. :) My boyfriend keeps saying that you can manipulate the image in post to get it looking the way you remember the scene. I'm quite happy to clone and dodge and burn now. Makes such a difference!

i couldn't agree more. although i started out exactly like you, wearing my purist badge a little too proudly. now on the odd occasion, i've even joined two images of the same scene to get what i really wanted. i now view a photo as an artistic statement, where you're trying to evoke a certain response - so i see no problem in manipulating some images to that end

As you will see, we provide the photographer's name and a link to their Flickr profile, as well as a paragraph or two if possible on what they enjoy/love about living in Cape Town or photographing Cape Town.
