Vertical Glory

Vertical Glory by ~VISTA.
Mosque in Muscat, Oman.

People of Oman are mainly Muslim. The doors of the mosques are normally open and people contentiously come to the mosques for prayer.

I have not brought my heavy tripod to Oman with me. So I bought a cheap one for 13 rials (which is about $30) and although it is a full plastic tripod, but it does the job perfectly. I have even started to kind of like it because it has long legs (like myself) and is very light (unlike myself!).

Taking photo with big camera and long leg tripod inside the public mosque seemed a little bit risky. I did not want to offend prayers or interrupt their holy activities. I also tolerated some peculiar looking, but they were more of curiosity rather than anger.

I had my 24-70mm lens with me which I like the most (mainly because it is my only lens at the moment!). Multiply the cropping factor of 1.6 and I get only 38mm wide lens maximum. Man!!!! I needed much more than that in this scene.

Very nice and clean mosque. I like it and I like to pray with them. But they rarely let you to have your camera into mosques.

This is really fantastic! There are public museums here that won't allow photography so it's really wonderful that you were able to take pictures inside this mosque.

Hi guys! Thank you for your kind words.
@Farhang: I miss you too man. I don't have my 70-300mm lens so taking photo from people means that I have to get CLOSE to them. But I try!
@Marzii: By vanish point do you mean the borders? Or the very end of the corridor?
@Mojtaba: I think saying prayer in this mosque is very peaceful. The atmosphere and people was so peaceful , so gentle that had a real spiritual effect on me.
@ Aleta: I like the real public places more than museums. Museums are too formal and artificially decorated for me.

i agree shots like this cry out loud for wider capture. another option to eliminate lens under low light condition is getting a prime lens. i have one and i'm really enjoying it :)

Great shot. Im not an expert but it definitely got my attention, it just hits you, i like the angel, the mosque's architecture, and captured the moment its like you in a slow-motion mood or everything around you has frozen...becoz those prayers are in another world. Its like you watching them from space, your not even there.

Hi,

Dear Fretur,

It's not the grand mosque. I am not sure about the name, it was in Ruwy area near a roundabout. Not a particularly large or famous mosque.

Have good time in Oman.

Best wishs.
