Naidi

Naidi

the enchanting landscape of Naidi Hills in Batan Island, as seen from Vayang

Basco, Batanes, Philippines

One of the most scenic spots in Basco, the rolling hills of Vayang offer stunning vistas of Batan Island’s captivating landscape, from Basco in the north to as far south as Mount Matarem in Mahatao, up to the hills of Uyugan.

Occupying the higher promontories on the northwestern tip of the island, facing the South China Sea, Vayang also provides a closer look at Mount Iraya towards the east, the rocky beach of Chadpidan on Batan’s northern coast, and on a clear day the island of Itbayat farther up north as well.

Situated just fifteen minutes from Basco proper, the rolling hills provide one of the best sites to catch the sunset in Batanes.

Valugan sunrise

Valugan sunrise

sunrise by the boulder beach in Valugan Bay, with Mount Iraya in the backdrop

Basco, Batanes, Philippines

Situated on the eastern side of Batan Island facing Valugan Bay, Chanpan beach occupies a coastline characterized by huge boulders and smaller round stones weathered by the strong Batanes surf.

Just a short distance away from Basco proper, the boulders on this beach are believed to have been spewn out of Mount Iraya during its last eruption in 1400 AD.

note: straight out of my cam, except for the addition of a watemark :)
