TV with iPod/Phone Dock?! ...

TV with iPod/Phone Dock?! ... by Rev Dan Catt.
... yes I must be getting old, by having a "they do what, with what now? Isn't technology amazing" moment when we grabbed a fairly standard TV from argos, that had built in DVD player and iPhod dock.

I have no idea how common these things are, is this fairly standard in the UK now, or is it a new thing?

Anyway seeing as we have no cable or TV aerial these seems to work pretty well. I use the BBC iPlayer to download the programs (mainly Cbeebies) move them over to the now-doesn't-make-phone-calls iPhone, slot it in and ta-da instant TV thing.

Works pretty well. Sadly I have no idea if this would actually push out "live" iPlayer programs direct from the iPhone itself, as the mobile BBC iPlayer correctly identifies our Wi-Fi network as being ultimately being a mobile connection (vodafone).

Modern technology is pretty impressive, next thing you know they'll have Wi-Fi TV's that directly play iPlayer stuff (and C4 too I guess ;)

kev I use the iPlayer Downloader than will pull anything that would normally play on the iPhone down in .mov format, which I then drop into iTunes and so-on.

I don't feel terribly bad about this as we pay for a TV license even-though we're not actually connected and watch & remove everything within a week. We'll give Timmy a try :)

Gav I'm not the best person to ask as my hearing is terrible, but it seems to have those speakers where I can't quite work out what people are saying, and when I turn it up high enough to hear them, the background noises are too loud ... clarity I think is what I'm thinking of. Kinda like trying to listen to Batman in the Dark Knight Returns or whatever it was.

Rev Dan Catt purely having a device that can pick up a TV signal means you have to have a license. the licensing people work the basis that if you an't got one you should. i have a 60 year old friend who has never had a TV and has lived at the same house for 18 years and they always harassing him. in London my flat was once stormed buy these people looking for TVs
