Our new favorite Sushi Bar

Had sushi on the brain. LOL Unless there is a new "Pirates of the Sushi Caribbean" that I don't know about. hehe
When we got the trays we were overwhelmed but even after eating all that, eating slowly with chopsticks and chatting, we were comfortably full not stuffed. We are thinking of making it a weekly ritual. hehe

I love your printing here - no fair!
Reminds me of my father's writing.
Thank you. :) I am going to be making my own font soon for use on my greeting cards. hehe
Our new favorite Sushi Bar by renmeleon.
Found a fantastic Japanese Steakhouse in one of our favorite wharf-town-style hangouts. We are all still talking about how wonderful the whole experience was...the food and service were BOTH incredible. That is a rare find...

...not to mention the lunch special was 8.95 for everything we got except the ice cream. Yup, new favorite place to eat.

Black Pentel .5mm EnerGel pen and Staedtler Pigment pen on the inside of my black Geisha Moleskine Cahier. (I love cahiers.) It was Japanese/Asian theme so I decided to use it for my sushi zine notes and sushi experiences. hehe
This photo has notes. Move your mouse over the photo to see them.

cgfan - thank you for stopping by and for the link. Enjoyed Montanaraven's journaling.

Sputnik+ - thank you, and I yours. :)

anivyl - I'm thinking I am going to have to do a comic strip now. ROFL

kiwehowin - I would eat sushi all the time if I could. LOL

One of my fondest sushi memories was when I got to spend 14 days in Oahu at the Ilikai on Waikiki. Friend won a trip on Jeopardy and took me knowing I would love all the cultural stuff. We had free breakfast and lunch buffets (incredible food) at the hotel and there was SUSHI. I was in heaven. LOL Dying to go back with a Moleskine and my digital camera. I didn't want to come home. hehe

The Wakiki trip souds wonderful! I would eat sushi all the time, too.

Actually, your beautiful drawing made me drool so much I went and picked up take away sushi from my favourite sushi place for supper. :) And I arranged some one a plate so I could take a few photos (since I'm not really confident with drawing yet)....

I hope we will see more of your journaling. The combination of your words and sketches makes for a wonderful journey through someone else's eyes.

And this may sound silly, but I just love your handwriting, what I call an "artist's handwriting". I wonder if I'm alone when I say that looking at the words gives me as much joy as looking at the sketches.

I love using my Moleskine particularily when I travel, but not being the artist, ends up looking quite unremarkable!

kiwehowin - My photos :::hangs her head in shame::: are in a box still. You'd think I would have done this already but I need to dig them out and make a scrapbook journal from them. I made notes the whole trip and I did all the non-touristy things. Took a bus all over exploring and spent a whole day at the temple and another at the cultural center. Even made friends with the hotel manager (female) who offered me a job and a place to stay because someone had done that for her once as well. I almost didn't come back. hehe All of my choices then led me to who I am now though. :) I'll get back there someday and I WILL have journals and a camera. hehe :::dreamy sigh as she remembers swimming with sea turtles in the bay:::

cgfan - Thank you so much for your lovely words, I am flattered and you do me great honor. I had taken Architectural Design as a major years ago (will eventually finish) and it influenced my style a little. I am left-handed so that affects it too. Most of my printing is in all caps but (sounds silly but) I enjoy making my lower case E's and A's. LOL I also tend to mix my lowers and my caps. You will notice my R's are still cap. hehe Hoping to do more Moleskines. Just finished creating a site for a paper arts company and she sells Moleskines!!! She is who I created the demos for as well.

I agree completely Sputnik+. When I was in Hawaii, my greatest joy was talking to people and collecting their stories. I made notes and will be 'reverse journaling' it. My thought was to get a Moleskine cahier and do a vintage Hawaiian cover then fill it with all the photos and stories...

One day I had taken a bus around downtown Honolulu. I was lucky enough that New Year's celebrations were going on all over while we were there. My friend preferred to sit in the hotel and watch the Senate hearings...I said fine by me and hopped a bus. LOL No way I was sitting in the room. On my little adventure I found a TINY hole in the wall place called 'Bad Ass Coffee Company'. It had been dead slow all day for them because of the festivals across town so the girl working behind the counter let me pick her brain. hehe She was native Hawaiian and, while I drank my coffee and ate my organic chocolate bar with coffee beans in it (omg it was good), she told me the stories that her grandmother used to tell her of Pelle and other things. It was one of my two favorite days...

siouxsue42 - Thank you. :) Sioux? Aho! :) Love your little textile art dolls, very cute. Do you do trades?

dhania - The key is to not think. LOL Don't try to control it. All my art I consider 'doodles' pretty much because I start with an idea or none at all and just start. I brainstorm on paper in words and in sketch. You should see my other originals; notes all over the page, sketches, doodles. Anyone can do art...just dive right in heads first, don't hink, just do. :::feeling rather Yoda-ish::: hehe

Oh and the word for today kiddies is BENTO!!!!!! hehe

invisible_worm - Thank you! :) It makes me hungry when I look at it. LOL We went and sat at the sushi bar Sunday night and we are going back again on Friday. LOL The place is incredible. Sushi party in Florida! hehe

This is probably my favourite contribution of yours.

I'm not sure if it's because it's aesthetically great or just cause I love sushi so much. I think maybe I'l dedicate my new plain moleskine to be a journal in this style. Doable, or will I go crazy first?

minolta711 - Thank you. :) I love journaling like this.

sushimoto - Thank you. :) I adore sushi so this was a lot of fun.. I have a few other sushi Moleskine entries if you've not seen them. Also check the Edibles folder. hehe I am a big fan of black & white line art and mixed with this style of journaling only makes it more fun. Word to the wise: If you do this, have a good idea of what you want to say in your head as you will edit it along the way to "fit" it into the space left by the illos. You can journal first but most times you won't leave enough art room, so art first.

Art first. Got it.

I've gotten into the habit of pencilling in everything (art and text) before I ink it. Is this what you do? I just have to remember to sketch lightly, let dry, and erase gently. :)

EDIT: Nevermind, I see some of your pencil marks in the larger view! Answers my question.
Posted 38 months ago. ( permalink )

view profile

renmeleon  Pro User  says:

Yeah, erasing lightly is a huge thing with the cahiers. I generally do everything in .5mm mechanical pencil first then ink, this one included. Looking at the larger size you can see that I actually left the pencil there.

:::reads the edit remark::: hehe Yeah.

I don't erase sometimes to give it more depth. I will also sometimes add pencil back in for shading after I ink.
