Stay in 'Touch' in 2012.

My New Year's resolution to my family and all my friends. This is the phone that once was in use by my grandparents. I believe it dates from 1954. Now I use an iPhone; we have come a long way, haven't we? Happy New Year, everybody!

Strobist: Classic Dutch bakelite phone placed on plexiglass with black backdrop. 580EXII with red gel at 1/4, zoomed at 105mm firing in from right. A 430EX with double blue gel at 1/8 zoomed at 105mm going in from right. Make-shift gobos all over the place to prevent light spills.

The Roaring 2's

The Roaring 2's

This is one out of a quick set of strobe shots of my daughter. She had a lot of patience compared to my sons. She actually sort of enjoyed it. It was a new experiment in getting more even and soft light. I think it worked. I had to do some photoshopping to hide some persistent boogers.

I did this by improving my setup by being able to place my Westcott 28" softbox more overhead, slightly pulled forward, using a boom. It was powered by a 430EX @ 1/4 power. At the same time, I bounced a 580EXII into a silver home-made reflector panel tossed on the ground. I gelled it with a 1/4 CTO and this fill was running at 1/32 power. The whole thing was controlled by an on camera 580EXII in manual master mode, which allowed me to control the power to each flash from the camera.

Merry Xmas Everybody

Merry Xmas Everybody

Holy smokes! This was one of the most challenging pictures I ever took. Doesn't look like it, but believe me. In fact this is the first shot I took to 'dial in' the camera a bit. Of course, knowing my kids, I had pre-tuned the setup, but there is always some more tweaking needed. The subsequent 45 (!) shots turned into a mess: they started running all over the place, crying, screaming, etc. It is amazing I got this much out of it. Anyway, Merry Xmas to all my photog friends!

Strobist: 24" softbox w/ 580EXII at 1/8th power on camera left and shoot-through umbrella at camera right with 580EXII at 1/32. Small blip. Dragged the shutter at 1/20s to get the christmas light to light up in the shot, hence the low flash power.
