I think they both work very well, but I am probably leaning towards the coloured backgrounds. I think it makes it 'pop' a bit more. Looks absolutely wonderful.

I agree....if you left the backgrounds colorless, it would have washed into the neutral wall behind it. Love the colors...makes the whole dollhouse pop. Also plays off the artwork above! Fabulous work again! :o)

gorgeous! i wish my ikea shelf didn't have holes in the walls. who makes this bookcase?

  12. relle* (41 months ago | reply)

thank you all for your feedback - really appreciated : )

lucybelle_crater - this one doesn't have a back either - i've cut foam core to size, covered them in coloured card and squeezed them into each hole

Ah, I have been in this situation before... but, change is always good! My initial dollhouse in the Ikea shelves had coloured backgrounds however, I have now gone for a white background instead. Seeing your pic above does show off the furniture in a very mod and groovy little way... I like it! And, it fits in with the pic hanging above it! Sometimes, the rest of the furniture in the room can depict which way to go. It's all about balancing the colours in the room and not making one area stand out too much over the others... all just needs to blend in perfectly. Heck, I love everything you do... you're a true style master in my eyes... from your interior pics to the pics you take of your awesome collection of dolls and doll furniture etc. You're truly inspiring and have a very distinct style about you!

millie&jill - i bought it from an australian furniture chain (oz design) - but being made in china, they probably could be found elsewhere

thanks blossom - it is nice to have some of the furniture out permanently

This is terrific! You could paint or wallpaper pieces of mat board cut to fit snugly into the rooms to change the background.

Just stumbled across this picture, and I have to say--I absolutely LOVE it! I'm a sucker for more "modern" looking houses, and this one has me absolutely drooling. Wonderful job!

  29. relle* (38 months ago | reply)

    thanks girls

staciem - thanks - it's the closest i can get to "modern", living in a 90 year old edwardian house *L* - nothing like living through your dolls

Oh my, I don't think I've come across a more perfect mod dollhouse! The Mattel Modern furniture looks absolutely fabulous against the solid color walls. What a fantastic job!

I love this; thinking of Christmas present from my daughter as a Barbie house. What are the dimensions of the bookcase. Does it have a particular name/style/model #? Was thinking too that perhaps using fabric scraps as backgrounds.

  32. relle* (22 months ago | reply)

    - thanks
    - i bought it from an australia store that doesn't stock it anymore - it's cubes will probably be around the same size of the popular ikea ones
