Once ground, the root smells pretty good.

I managed to make some sort of slightly palatable dandelion coffee. The above roots, chopped and roasted, made enough for a mug. I don’t know if I did something wrong but the “coffee” that I got at the end was pretty pale and once I’d added my soya milk it just looked like a mug of soya milk. I added some actual coffee to it in the end because it was pretty week. I might try again with a larger quantity, roasting it for longer at a lower temperature and steeping it for 10 minutes more.

Sort of a success, compared to my dandelion and watercress pesto anyway, which was fucking vile.

Hymenomycetes Vol. I.

Hymenomycetes Vol. I.

Rev John Stevenson with illustrations by Worthington George Smith. Most of the descriptions have faded into synonymy and it's not very practically useful but it's a beautiful book. The original owner of this copy has written their name and the year 1886 in the cover and I love that over a hundred years later it is still being enjoyed.
