Way Out sign at Warren Street station

    Newer Older

The corporate house-style of London Underground is very flexible whilst still being very consistent. Modern signs, like this exit sign at Warren Street, use upper- and lowercase lettering. The yellow-on-black Johnston lettering here is only used for exit signs, making them easy to spot and reducing dithering on platforms by inexperienced users of the system. The colour scheme also mirrors how these exits signs look when backlit.

It seems that the London Underground is not aware that foreign vistors who do not speak English are generally familiar with the Best Practice of having simple EXIT signs with a green background.
