GHO Siblings 4-13-10
Two GHO chicks....although it may be hard to see, there are two little heads sticking up out of the nest. They are growing and changing very fast.

GHO chick 4-10-10
A great horned owl chick on April 10th in Somerset, Ky. Most of the literature that I have read says the owls should have hatched, fledged, and be gone by now.....but that isn't the case here. At any rate, they have been enjoying a picture perfect spring.

Great Horned Owl adult
A pair of Great Horned Owls took over the Redtail Hawk nest this winter. After doing some research on their behavior, I expected them to move on by the time the Redtail Hawks returned to the nest, but WRONG, they didn't. I witnessed one Redtail protesting this guy/gal's presents, but the owl didn't budge. I haven't seen a hawk since. Who would mess with this ominous critter? They do have a beautiful voice, but I miss the hawks!!!!

Adult Redtail Hawk Pair
This is Somerset, Ky’s Kay and Jay Red Hawk, named after the hawks shown on Tulsa’s KJRH website. This pair’s nest is uphill from my house. In the summer of 2008, they successfully raised two babies. We were blessed when they fledged to our yard, where they hung out for about two months. This photo was taken in April of 2008. They soared together like this often. I thought I would see them doing this during the mating time this year but I never did.
