matte paper transfer

matte paper transfer by Gallery32.
This is an inkjet transfer of a polaroid printed on matte paper and transfered to watercolor paper.

1. print image on matte paper
2. trim image to size
3. coat generously with acrylic gel medium. I used Liquitex.
4. place on watercolor paper, cover with wax paper and brayer until flat. Wipe away excess gel medium
5. let it dry naturally or iron back until dry
6 wet printed image
7. rub off photo paper backing. You may have to wet again and gently use a paper towel to get all of the fibers off.

Good Luck!

Very nice. I had someone email me yesterday about how to do gel medium transfers. I posted instructions on my blog at photobrea.wordpress.com/ and added your helpful suggestion about re-wetting the image and rubbing off the paper backing. I hadn't even thought to do that. Thanks!

Thanks for the link on your blog photobrea. I am quite flattered since I found the instructions on your blog. Crazy huh?
I don't think I was clear about which paper to rub off. It is not the watercolor or paper you transfer to, but rather the photo paper backing. I have changed it on my instructions, but you might want to change it on your blog:) Thanks again!

I've been meaning to have a go at this for some time, so I've bookmarked it! I have tried doing an inkjet onto waxxy paper and transfering the image but I was disappointed with the results - you seem to have a fairly consistent image with ths method...

Jon, I have done about 30 of the transfers for my collage and 95% of the time they are perfect. I like the painterly effect. Can't wait to see your results :)
