one november sunrise, part 1: peace
can often just be found by going out in nature and letting its beauty saturate your soul.
Explore #19 11/10/09 - thank you for my 100th Explore!!! ♥ I feel like I ought to have a party now. :)
Sunrise outside my house... I chose not to process this image and left it SOOC. It's better appreciated large on black though. :)
I will be uploading a couple of shots this week but haven't had much time for Flickr-surfing lately. I can't wait to catch up with you all and see what I've been missing!
Ciao for now!

Much better large on black.
Just grass, and frost melting in the kiss of the golden sunrise. A magical macro world exploding with light and color and glitter, and we've probably walked past or stepped on it countless times. How I love rediscovering this world through a camera lens!
Taken with my Canon 85mm 1.8

It matters more what's in a woman's face than what's on it.

Dance with me large on black (my new favorite song is on there - thanks to my brother Brian for making me an Owl City addict!). :)
I recently saw a People magazine spread featuring female celebrities with no makeup, and thought it was so inspiring - because to me, these women looked even more beautiful without makeup than they did with it. I've never been one to wear a lot of makeup or do excessive airbrushing in Photoshop, but even so, after seeing that feature I completely changed my mind about how I want to do SP's going forward. It's far too easy for us as women photographers (speaking to my female friends here) to become obsessed with perfection... the little blemishes or wrinkles or the things we want to "fix" about ourselves... rather than embracing ourselves as we are. I understand this is a fine line to walk and maybe a touchy or controversial subject with some people, but I just feel that in an age where women on magazine covers are more plastic than real, and where photos are so airbrushed they're not even an accurate representation anymore - there needs to be a backlash. I am raising daughters in this kind of world, and more than anything I want them to grow up understanding that beauty comes from within, and that all shapes and sizes and faces are beautiful because they were created by God - Himself, the master Artist.
From here on out, most of my SP's will be with no makeup or touch ups, because I want to send a message through my photos: "I don't need to look perfect to feel beautiful. I don't need to be airbrushed to embrace who I am. My face is part of my story." There's something very empowering about that. When I look at this picture I see beyond just my face, I see the depth of my true self. I see both my strength and my vulnerability. I see worry lines and smile lines, because I have experienced both much joy and yes, much disappointment in my 33 years. I see confidence and uncertainty mingled. But most of all I see courage. That, I feel, defines me more than anything else.

Interrupting my regularly scheduled series to bring you yesterday's sunrise and mist over the pond. :) I wish I'd had this to post for Halloween, because it's a bit spooky don't you think? You can see it large on black here.
