This is a wonderful photo. I really like the mood here. The title helps set the tone for the situation in the photo. I like how the focus is on the face and papers, and how the body of the person disappears into the darkness. Very well done! Matter of fact, I like it so much it deserves a FAVE! :)

Agree with Aprevit, on the "dont think this could be improved", but i has such a strong meaning and emotion... and love the dark side of the pics, like everybody else :)

+ Lovely moody lighting and pose, and nicely composed.

- Maybe a little more light on the face would be nice?

+ First I have to say that the title is perfect, and the presentation is close to.

- I would like ot see more light on the face, and I think the lower left could be darker, which would enhance the surronded by void feeling you're going for.

+ Fine example! and the message comes across well even w/o the title.

- agreement on the face, just a little, not too much.

Thx for adding to the Positive / Negative Pool

This is a super image! Love the way the person is in the dark - leads the eye nicely around the frame... however, I am so wow'd by the defender's simplicity and impact that I have to..

Even though this photo is great and I hate borders in Flickr images my vote goes to the defendant. Amazing composition and light there!

I would like to have seen a little more light on the writer's face, and I'd prefer the lamp to stand upright. I *really* cannot cope with the directions my eye is drawn in the challenged picture, and I think this composition is very telling, which definitely gives it the edge. 1of100 #3

i like the emotion and appreciate the play with light, but the hand is kind of too dominant (more than the face) and the lamp and its decoration has an effect, that makes me dizzy. i don't like the cignetting in the defender, but i like it to stay in the pool.

I think that the emphasis is too much on the lamp here.

Thanks all for your votes - I am comming to agree on the not enough light on the face vs. too much light on the hand.

I originally thought that the emphasis should be on the hand and the fact that it is not holding the pen (also that the page is blank). The darkness of the head = not having ideas. The glasses off = not being able to see the world clearly.
Or something like that.
But I am now realizing that the darkness could be a distraction to someone who didn't view the image as I did.

+ i like the focus on the empty writer's hand vs. the face of the hand's owner

- less light in lower left - it's nitpicky at best, though

+well thougth pic good frame and intension
-maybe just maybe to see how it looks the faming should be a bit up to see the tip of the lamp just slightly

WIth the positioning, this is more a photo about a tilted lamp. I am a writer. I have had many bouts of WB. None of them even remotely look like this. Who the hell writes with a fountain pen anymore? Is this Laura Engles Wilder on writer's block?

There are a couple very minor quibbles I have here.

That the pen/notepad are the center of attention is good, and obvious, and fits the theme of the photo well. However, the lamp is too prominent, and the glasses also pull my eyes away from the person's face.

Had the glasses been in the face/lamp/pad triangle, the photo could be improved, or, again, if the lamp didn't create such a large distraction; it should definitely be a significant factor in the image. Just not the main one.

This was *so* close to a save for me, that I can't delete it.
