swirl

swirl by Ray Byrne.
Just a swirl of water caused by a weir on the River Aln, near Denwick Lane bridge.

You might just be able to make out Alnwick Castle through the bridge.

I see your stunning work in the 18th/19th century English picturesque tradition, often found in watercolors.

When you’re weary, feeling small,
When tears are in your eyes, I will dry them all;
I’m on your side. When times get rough
And friends just can’t be found,
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will lay me down.
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will lay me down.

All my bags are packed
Im ready to go
Im standin here outside your door
I hate to wake you up to say goodbye
But the dawn is breakin
Its early morn
The taxis waitin
Hes blowin his horn
Already Im so lonesome
I could die

So kiss me and smile for me
Tell me that youll wait for me
Hold me like youll never let me go
cause Im leavin on a jet plane
Dont know when Ill be back again
Oh babe, I hate to go

Theres so many times Ive let you down
So many times Ive played around
I tell you now, they dont mean a thing
Evry place I go, Ill think of you
Evry song I sing, Ill sing for you
When I come back, Ill bring your wedding ring

So kiss me and smile for me
Tell me that youll wait for me
Hold me like youll never let me go
cause Im leavin on a jet plane
Dont know when Ill be back again
Oh babe, I hate to go

Now the time has come to leave you
One more time
Let me kiss you
Then close your eyes
Ill be on my way
Dream about the days to come
When I wont have to leave alone
About the times, I wont have to say

Oh, kiss me and smile for me
Tell me that youll wait for me
Hold me like youll never let me go
cause Im leavin on a jet plane
Dont know when Ill be back again
Oh babe, I hate to go

But, Im leavin on a jet plane
Dont know when Ill be back again
Oh babe, I hate to go

Can you help - is this the 'quite plain' side, or the subsidiary bridge?!

English Heritage:
DENWICK ROAD 1. 5330 Denwick Bridge NU 1913 7/44 20.2.52. I 2. Dated 1765. Attributed to Robert Mylne, formerly to John Adam. Ashlar built: a single segmental arch spanning the River Aln, with a moulded rim. Octagonal side piers and a parapet of interlaced crescents, the dies with trefoil headed panels. Pointed arcade corbel table cornice to these side piers, modillion cornice to the rest. Below the dies are 2 corbels with a crescent encircled by the Garter and the date MDCCLXV. The spandrels have circular panels containing quatrefoils with on the left the Percy Lion and on the right a fesse engrellee. The bridge has been widened and the north side is quite plain. Twenty yards to the west there is a subsidiary bridge over the escape stream from nearby weir.

This is the south side and I think it must be the plain side of the main bridge, which is opposite to your description. The subsidiary bridge is over to the right (well out of frame).

Thanks for the info and thank you for adding your excellent photo.

Please feel free to add more photos of buildings in England which are World Heritage Sites, Grade I listed, or Scheduled Ancient Monuments (where substantial structure remains). See 'Discussions' for more information.
