Diamond Ring (2nd Contact), Total Solar Eclipse 2009 (203/365)

Diamond Ring (2nd Contact), Total Solar Eclipse 2009 (203/365) by rawheadrex.
Wuhan, China, 9:23 AM July 22nd, 2009

We left Shanghai on the 21st because the forecast sucked ass, and made it to Wuhan. Unfortunately, it was still cloudy where we were. It would've been much better if we were maybe another 1 km north of where we went. It would've been perfect if we'd decided to go all the way to Chongqing (twice the distance, twice the money). Ah well, 'tis the way of astronomical events. An awesome experience nonetheless.

32 frames extracted and stacked from the video I shot (I gave up completely on taking still shots; exposure calculation would've been useless because of the clouds) using Kieth's Image Stacker.

Weapon of the Day:

ありましたよ、ありました!! どうせ曇るときは曇る時だと思って、上海に残ることも一瞬考え たんですが、ほんっとーーーーに移動して良かった!w

Thanks a bunch. I'm quite happy I was even able to take this shot.

Thanks so much!! Yes, the innermost part of that halo is the "corona," the dark (relatively speaking) outer layers of the sun that are visible to the naked eye only during a total eclipse. The corona is much more expansive but the clouds obscured all but the brighter innermost parts of it :-))
