Vermiculture: 700 households get 5% property tax rebate

AUNDH residents Rajendra and wife Sangeeta Joshi proudly dis play their property tax bill in which they have been awarded a rebate of five per cent. What makes the rebate doubly special is the fact that it's a reward for the Joshis' commendable efforts in dealing with wet waste effectively through vermiculture.

"I have been doing this for the last two years. Last year, I had applied for the rebate to Pune Municipal Corporation's tax department. After assessment by ward officers, I got the rebate this year. It clearly mentions that the five per cent rebate is on the property rate for use of vermicompost in our terrace garden," said Rajendra .

The couple is not the only one to avail of this incentive. Initiated last year by the civic body, the city has about 1,800 properties across the city involved in vermicompost. Of this, about 700 properties spread across 14 wards have availed of the five per cent rebate.
