I've been wanting to take night shots of this location for quite some time now and a few weeks back, on Guy Fawkes night the weather was kind enough to give me and Barbs the opportunity.
It's not really the kind of place many people would feel comfortable spending much time at on their own.
I packed away the speedlights for this one and let the near-full moon do it's bit over a long exposure.
Added a little detail back in by combining 3 exposures from the same raw file in photomatix and then using it as a luminosity layer in photoshop, at a low opacity. Selective sharpening applied to gravestones, trees, leaves etc.
For this kind of image, it's best to do a test shot for composition and exposure at a high ISO (eg. 10" at ISO 3200) and then adjust the exposure time up as you lower the ISO down for the final take.
The police did a routine drive-by and stopped right beside us as we were packing up our gear. I stage-whispered to Barbs a hurried "Quick, hide the body!" for a bit of fun ;o)
