Dignan does the ceremonial dead bug dance.

Anyone else's dog do this? It's a ritual where if he sees a dead bug on the ground, he turns over on his back and writhes on top of it. Creey in an M. Night Shyamalan way.

My dog does it on random plots of grass. I always figured it was just a way to scratch his back. Now I'm going to make him stop and look under him first.

My dog does this over cat shit. It's highly annoying. It's a pretty normal ritual for dogs and some cats to do this in order to mark their scent. When they do it on top of poo or pee pee, they're essentially erasing the other animal's territorial marking, in place of their own (notice the focus for most animals is near the nape of their neck /shoulder area, where they have lots of scent glands). In Dignan's case, he's just marking his scent with a little dead bug boogie style. Sweet.

My dog was doing this in a giant pile of seaweed a few weeks ago. I was about 15yds out in the lake yelling "Stop that or you're gonna have to have a BATH!" He stopped....for a second.
