Instrument-a-day 23: NYC Sunday Morning SimulatorIn order to view this Flickr video, you'll need to install the latest version of the Adobe Flash Player. A drum, some antique wind-up motors (from the Aladdin Toy Motors company of Brooklyn!), and leftover wood from the laser whistles combine to give you a simulation of the sound of a peaceful sunday morning in New York City. It sounds like this. (Video here)

This is Almost a Brilliant idea...
Whenever i see an Almost Brilliant Idea though,
i immediately think of how to jump that last little chasm...
i don't suppose that you're familiar with the robotic control systems
for the Disney Land Lincoln Robot ( Classic Version ) ???
i would imagine that, by now, they've switched over to conventional computer controls...
But in the 60's, When the smallest computers filled a football stadium,
They used a collection of rotating cogs, or gears, which were cut out so that a control bar would swing back & forth as this wheel, or cog, or gear spun around...
Then the control bar would activate an arm or finger to move it in a prescribed way...
This system of robotic controls was actually pioneered and widely used in ancient Roman Times...!!!
Along with all sorts of clever axles and pegs driven into their sides, that changed the direction of ropes wrapped around them...
Amazing Stuff...
Where did i see all this...???
Just recently too...???
Anyways...
Something like that could be used with a drum set to actually beat out specific rhythms...???
