datacut, once I got the pumpkin gutted it probably only took an hour and a half or so to carve it. No rough draft. I drew the shapes on the pumpkin freehand with a crayon before I started with the knife.

Initially I was only going to do the eyes, but my wife suggested that I add the webbing, too. I didn't realize that the web would glow so much since the cuts are very shallow, so that was an added bonus.

Doing a Spider-Man pumpkin was my three-year-old son Toby's idea.

Did you make a template that you would be willing to share?

    35. jen d. cox (8 months ago | reply)

Sorry, but there was no template! My husband did it freehand. IIRC, the inspiration came from a Spider-Man paper plate. (:

    36. bellcash (7 months ago | reply)

how does the web not fall apart?

    37. jen d. cox (7 months ago | reply)

@bellcash, it's just scored, shallow cuts--not cut all the way through. The light just shines through.
