The story goes that a secretary designed the logo with a sheet of press_down type, turning the "o" sideways to make the "T"

I haven't been able to ID the original font, or even verify if the story is correct. The orginal logo from 1967 was GO TRANSIT" all in the same font, which to me, makes it pretty believable.

Any how, those were the characters I had to work with. The "G" and the sideways "O" are still there as OT stylistic alternative features.

The "s" is too distracting. Maybe try a form with a thick central diagonal, and beaks at the top-right and bottom-left to complete the shape.

Yes, it is. Especially in the lowercase. It just doesn't work.

I'm keeping the u/c "S" as a contextual alternate to go with "E" , but it's a place holder only for the lower case. I've already tried a couple variations of what you suggested but it isn't quite right yet.
