Spotted this male Northern Harrier as I was leaving Ano Nuevo.

Oh no, not again!

This experience at Ano Nuevo was very intense and a bit shocking at times! At around 350 lbs. this small, very, very young female is pretty much helpless when this big guy (apx. 2,000 lbs) decided he wanted what he wanted...sometimes these young ones are killed by the older adult males.

I couldn't help but identify with that sense of frustration and helplessness that I witnessed here.

Don't Get Too Close!

Well we had a great day at a special event at Ano Nuevo State Park today!! We were able to spend time at a close distance to these magnificent creatures...there was breeding activity, fights and births! Lots of great information from the docents and Park Rangers. A very, very special day!!! These two shots aren't cropped and of course I wasn't as close as this looks!!! Thanks Theresa and Alex for a great day!
