The Corner, 10.25.06

Tiger Stadium on the corner of Michigan & Trumbull in Detroit. The Tigers called this location home from 1896 to 1999. I attended two games in its final season and it stands vacant today in yet another shining example of Detroit's urban decay.

This is one of a series of photos I took today in honor of the Detroit Tigers return to the World Series. More to be posted soon.

I agree it's a shame as it remains a classy stadium, but I like the idea of honoring the history by keeping the diamond untouched in the center of the redevelopment project.

I stood, right there, back in the eighties, to save this stadium... Now look at it.

But the new stadium is great! Just wish they could have repurposed this one, within a baseball theme.

I just wish they would do something with it. It's been sitting empty for the longest time -- redevelopment is taking longer than they expected. It would be just great if they do end up saving the field though -- there is so much history that took place there! Tiger Stadium was a gem, that's to be sure (although Comerica Park is a great place to see a ballgame as well).

Nice shot by the way, the black & white and gloominess is very fitting.

Sadly most of the old Great Stadiums are gone
