some gals have a spa day, I have an alteration day.
jeans came from my rich roommate from NYC. she gave away some clothes when we were at art school together in Florence in 2001. I thought I got rid of these high-waisted flares years ago but found them in a giant box of old clothes my mom gave me last fall. Used this tutorial to make the alteration. Beats spending $65+ for new jeans, plus they are tailored to fit ME.

only problem with this tutorial was that the diagram showed pegging the jeans around one's knees while standing up. problem is, I can barely sit down!

Sometimes you just have to hold onto things that you know will eventually work, until juuust the right time. I thought about hemming this thrifted dress up into a mini when I added the patches a couple of years ago, but it just didn't seem to be the right look, so I tucked it away until I figured out what to do. With the return of extreme bias cut skirts aka mullet dresses, there was my long-awaited solution.
Also, I predict wraparound skirts will make a comeback. Hey, I was right about short-short culottes!
