Blue Chocolate Hazelnut Cupcake
Chocolate hazelnut cupcakes topped with hazelnut vanilla buttercreme dyed an unlikely blue. I know it doesn't exactly bring "hazelnuts" to mind, but I really wanted to make blue frosted cupcakes...something about winter, moody music (it'll be a miracle if I'm able to stop listening to "Half Jack" by the Dresden Dolls on repeat and oh my god don't even mention the Morrissey...), strange cabaret musicals and David Lynch had me in the mood not for flavor, but for color. Blue. On the whole though I think these were pretty cheerful with their little jimmies and snowpeople in jaunty hats.
I got an order of vegan white chocolate chips from Vegan Essentials and of course my first thought was to melt some and draw with it. I found this white chocolate very hard to work with though. It was very thick and sticky when I finally got it to melt and very brittle (I broke plenty of 'em). I got a white chocolate bar in addition to the chips that has more fat content in it, so I think I might try melting that to see if there's a difference. The chips had very little fat (relatively speaking for chocolate anyway), so that might account for the difficulty. CommentsShannon Coffey

... Reminds me of Kieslowski's "Three colours: Blue".... or perhaps a Tim Burton film...;-) They're great!
