On the northern tip of Ireland exists Giant's Causeway,

On the northern tip of Ireland exists Giant's Causeway,

an alien landscape of basalt columns formed by volcanic eruptions over 65 million years ago. One of the many legends surrounding the origin of the Causeway involves an Irish warrior named Finn McCool building each stepping stone in order to reach Scotland to fight his enemy, Benandonner. But on the voyage, Finn fell asleep. When he didn't arrive for their duel, Benandooner traversed the path to hunt him down. To protect Finn, his wife covered him in a blanket and pretended that he was actually their baby. When the much larger Benandooner saw the size of the child he assumed that Finn must be gargantuan and fled home in fear, breaking apart the Causeway as he ran so that he could never be followed.

"dark, salt, clear, moving, utterly free,
drawn from the cold hard mouth
of the world, derived from the rocky breasts
forever, flowing and drawn."
