Selfish Portraits . 2012
The purpose of portrait painting is to grant the subject immortality.
The essence of street art is impermanence.
By selling a canvas of myself, I am trying to live forever.
By leaving a painting of myself in the street, I am accepting death.
Each painting in this series represents myself.
They are indifferent to the multitude of existing categories, hegemonic or otherwise, through which I'm pressured to negotiate my identity.
My expression is aware of being both self-deifying and self-debasing.
It proclaims a contradiction, but communicates the diversity of the whole.
