East face of the Matterhorn reflected in the Riffelsee lake, Switzerland.
Riffelsee is a lake above Zermatt below the Riffelhorn in the canton of Valais, Switzerland. At an elevation of 2757 m. The lake can be reached from the Rotenboden station (2819 m) of Gornergratbahn.
This is really a lovely walk from the station to the lake, although I really feel tired haha, the scenery and landscape are fantastic!
The most well-known faces of Matterhorn are the east and north ones, both visible from Zermatt. The east face is 1,000 metres high and, because it is "a long, monotonous slope of rotten rocks", represents a high risk of rockfall, making its ascent dangerous.
