I can't think of anyone who was overjoyed on this day. Maybe a traffic engineer somewhere.

I suppose that will always be the case when trams are closed: it certainly never was much different here in Europe (and now those cities that closed their tram systems all wish they never had).

The scan quality of these images is absolutely amazing. It's hard to believe the pictures are 35 years old.

What a great photo to see. I was born in 1966 and actually have a very vague memory of going "to the city" with my mother and the trams in Queen St. Definately a huge loss to the city and the biggest (and probably only) mistake Clem Jones made during his time as mayor.
