Sad face iPod

This is my sixth dead iPod in three years. Still under warranty, so I need to walk it to the Apple store (less than 1/4 mile) to replace it.

The advantages of repairs instead of a replacement of the entire unit by the manufacturer has a cost advantage, allows the users to keep their own device and data. Last but not least, it makes more sense from an ecological perspective. Yes, that iPod that I received as replacement against the dead iPod in this picture? That iPod died already and I had to get a replacement under warranty.

That's 7 dead iPods so far. I am positive #8 will die before it's extended warranty expires.

The service you link to is similar to www.ipodresq.com/, which is run by a company that specializes in mail-in support for Apple products. A flat fee buys you a padded transit box, round trip shipping charges and isurance, plus a full diagnostic. Once they know what's wrong they will ask you permission to either fix it or return it to you.

Would I still buy more iPods when the extended warranty on this one expires? Sure, but there's no way in hell I am buying one without the extended warranty.
