• Always been fond of these older "wheat" pennies. - triviaqueen
  • I pulled out all the wheat-back pennies I found, probably fifteen or twenty of them altogether.

Rusty Pennies

Newer Older

Inspired by this photo from Flickr member Unrelated Patterns, I counted and rolled the coins in my change jar today. Total: $36.00, twenty in pennies and the rest in nickels and dimes.

As a result of being stored in a coastal environment, many of the copper cents in this assortment have developed layers of corrosion ranging from slight discoloration to vivid white and green stains and pitting of the metal. Newer coins (post-1982) with less copper in the alloy appear to be more prone to deterioration.
