Following the sage advice of some of my more organized acquaintances, this evening I disposed of numerous miscellaneous receipts and papers, tossed some other "non-desk" items into another box of CRAP to sort later, filed an item or two in my file cabinet (gasp!), and actually found the bottom of this drawer! I'd nearly forgotten that it was felt lined! The felt lined drawer was a nice vintage touch, and one of the deciding factors when I purchased this Mission-style desk from Ashley Furniture (since out of business) not too many years ago. Sadly, or deplorably, I haven't really been able to appreciate this little detail, because the drawer has been full of rubbish, and more often than not wedged shut by stacks of boxes.
For what use are felt-lined desk drawers designed? Until I find out, I've reduced the contents to a ruler, a hand lens, a jeweler's loupe, and a copper soap box. I need to find a clever use for the copper soap box. Or perhaps I'll fill it full of coins and bury it somewhere, an exciting treasure for someone to find years from now.
I need to use a piece of masking tape to clean the lint off the felt.
The other desk drawer will offer considerably more of a challenge.
