If you are thinking about getting a pet - please get one from a shelter or rescue organization. These animals really need homes and the longer they are in the shelter the less likely they are to get adopted.

All of these wonderful dogs and cats are available for adoption at the Los Angeles East Valley Animal Shelter.....go get one....or two

adorable.I bred some purebred pups recently and really questioned what i had done afterwards.I loved them all very much and they all went to very good homes, but there are so many dogs in rescue centres now.i'm still not clear in my mind if one should ever breed as a choice,at least while there are so many dogs needing homes.
What do people think about this

it might be very hard to persuade the dog show people of this but - i think you should have to buy a very expensive license to breed dogs - except for working dogs for police and ranchers..... and service dogs.

lucy, i think it's wonderful that you thought about this afterward. I go to shelters and rescues a lot, and it's just so hard for me to think about paying so much money for a dog who is really privileged, in a way, when there are so many dogs in need, as you said.

and honestly, there's just no love like shelter dog love. they know they've been given a second change, and they spend their entire lives loving you for it.

morley says he wants goober. he/she has the same hairdo ... and you should know that morley doesn't discriminate against gender. :)

and my hat's off to lucy! far far FAR too many people are breeding and don't think twice about it. thank you so much for at least considering your actions. yes, there are reputable breeders ... and a lot of those reputable breeders even do their fair share of rescue work for their breed ... which, frankly, i find a little "breedist" since there are SO many MORE dogs out there, just like this little gooberhead, of no particular breed. they have no breed-specifid rescue organization to speak for them!

i'm glad your pups went to good homes, but if you were able to turn your efforts towards shelter dogs - whether breed-specific or not - i think that would be amazing.

i've always had shelter dogs and smalls is right ... y'ain't felt love till you've felt the love of a shelter dog, especiall the love of an older shelter dog. i got my morley man at 9 yrs of age. he's amazing.

i just can't imagine getting a dog anywhere else ... and i'm someone who's seriously into training and have spent my entire life dreaming of having that one amazing dog, raised from a puppy, pick of the litter, etc. ... it'll never happen. i just can't imagine it.

anyway ... thank you for opening your mind and heart to a new of seeing things.

What a lovely dog, I hope he will find a good family soon.
I only adopt animals in shelters or animal welfare organizations. My two dogs are ex-strays from Athens (Greece).
