Casio COLLEGE FX-100 Pocket Calculator
My mum bought me this for my 16th birthday, which makes it over 26 years old, and it has served me well ever since. Although i've frequently been tempted by HP calculators and later Casio models with HEX/Octal/Binary conversion, I find a combination of the shell dc/bc, Perl and Excel does everything I need these days and the OSX built in calc application is neat, especially the currency conversion. Actually, I suddenly remember first seeing pocket calculators being demonstrated on Tomorrow's World in the early 70s, that's tonight's surfing kicked off :-)

Lorks, that brings back some memories. I couldn't have passed my Maths O Level (yes, they were still called that in my day) without my FX-100. Wonder what happened to it?

Wow - I haven't seen one of these for years - like everyone else, it brings back "serious" memories of Maths O-Level's!

I still have, and still use, my FX100. Maths O level indeed! I can even taste the bottle of Woodpecker cider we had to celebrate.

I have a College fx-100 exactly the same. My mother bought me it when I was at school. It's now over 30 years old, still working fine and what's even more extraordinary is the fact that I still have the orginal casio batteries in it. I recently e-mailed casio and so far they haven't heard of any that can top it. Every time I switch it on I think 'maybe this is the day the battieries run out' but no, it still keeps going. They obviously don't make batteries like that anymore... or calculators for that matter. Couldn't possibly part with it now. It's part of my life.

mine is 23 years old. I am sure it was about £80 when my parents got it for me. The guarantee was it would see you through school to university.... and beyond!! Mine is giving up the ghost now. Held together with sellotape, things are beginning to happen internally now. So sad!!

Hi,
I have exactly the same calculator, which I've been using from around my my 16th (i.e. around the 1985's).
BUT ... does anyone have the manual? I'd greatly appreciate someone sending me the original manual (eventually as pdf of scanned).
Thanks.
(BTW: I can't ever remember having to change the batteries)

I'm still using this calculator and have a user manual from it.
Only one problem: it's in the Dutch and Swedish language.

I also still have this same calculator from when I did my maths O level at the age of 16 (I'm now 47), and I've NEVER changed the batteries either. I keep thinking it's a complete miracle. I still use it all the time, and it's as trusty as ever ...

I have this exact calculator also, and guess what, I'm still using the batteries that it came with back in 1980 or so.

Got two FXes here - my wife's FX85 and my FX115M
Both solar, the FX85 works perfectly, mine has a back up cell battery which I had to replace this year. Great pieces of kit.
(Got here from the article mattgemmell.com/2011/07/22/apps-vs-the-web/ )

I just came across this page... just want to let people know that I have the original manual (English/Spanish) of College fx-100A. It's the only calculator I've ever owned. Please let me know if you're still interested in having a copy of the manual... although it's a small booklet, there are 57 pages so it'll be a task scanning it!

I have been using my FX 100 for over 25 years and like other posters, it has the original Casio batteries. Not even the Duracell bunny can top that!!
