      As long as Yahoo Mail isn't taken over by Hotmail... that would really be a disaster.

      .eti: Hotmail was a Unix shop, until M$ bought them. If it goes thorough, you can expect everything to change, for the worse.

      choice of operating system has no bearing on the user's experience.

      at this stage y! could do a *lot* worse than this.

      Yeah but no but... aside from the fact that this is like when The Smiths signed to EMI, this hasn't happened yet has it? They were talking on the news earlier like it was a done deal - and at those prices maybe it is - but we need to wait and see I think...

      Yeah, Paul. I feel your pain. I'm already looking around for alternatives to flickr, upcoming, del.icio.us, et. al. Time to roll my own, maybe, at least then I can be sure... :-)

      I should clarify, choice of OS does matter, 'cos it bleeds through. Microsoft won't be able to help themselves use it as a showcase for their technologies. Expect bizarre URIs, weird APIs (well that might be changing), Javascript to be replaced by Silverlight, OpenID by Cardspace, "best viewed in ie", loss of support for open technologies such as Microformats, a halt to contributions to Open Source projects, etc, etc
