You know what's awful is finding old mix
tapes in a drawer or something and then
realizing you don't even have anything to
play them on! It's like a little mystery!
I wish I could find some of my old mix tapes
because just the other day I was driving to
work and I realized that my car has a
cassette deck in it! I have owned the car
since 2004 and never really noticed.
Obviously I knew it was there, but just never
really thought about it...but it made me miss
mix tapes. Kids nowadays are going to miss
out on the joys of sitting in your room for 2
hours recording a mix tape. Burning a CD, or
even worse, making a playlist on you iPod
just doesn't have the same charm!
Yep, I kept most of my old tapes. I still
pull them out once in a while for nostalgia's
sake. Mix tapes are the best, but man they
sound awful. Some of my music was obscure
enough to only have been released on
cassette. I'm especially glad that I've held
on to those.
I think getting the levels right was the
hardest part, especially if you were
recording from two different sources. I
hated getting a tape that had huge volume
swings in it!
Yeah I hear that. Even with the good ol'
Dolby NR button mashed, the hiss was just
terrible. I had a tape deck in my car 'till
I wrecked it in 99, but that thing was just a
receiver for the discman converter
thingamabob. Man did it suck when the tape
player didn't want to 'read' that thing.
haha old school piracy FTW...I used to watch
Electric Circus every week on Much Music and
put my ghetto blaster up to my TV speaker and
record it. I would have the door to my room
closed and have a sign taped on it that read
'Quiet! Recording In Session'. I really
wanted to get a red light bulb installed that
I could turn on instead, but my parents
wouldn't go for it :)
My ten year old niece hops in her great
uncle's car the other day, picks up a
cassette and says, "What's this
thing?" After we laugh, with no small
trace of wistfulness, we explain it to her
and she says, "oh yeah, it was called
a....... a Tape!" Like she's trying to
remember a slide rule or an adz or something.
Just thought i'd share for those of us who
might not realize we're officially old.
I remember having these things, and playing
them. So yeah, this hits a nostalgic softspot
with me. Other than that I can also say that
this is one awesome build, man. :)

Ok you are now my hero...but you need to put a piece of masking tape on it and write 'Nathan's Mix' across it if you want to be really old school:)

Dude I thought it was real from the thumb. I mean I saw the holes and thought, "there's no way he pulled that off in Lego."
You, sir, are amazing.

Heh, I found a floppy disk the other day, like one of the giant original floppy disks. I had no clue what it was, had to look it up.

I just think it's funny how many kids have no idea what a cassette is. When I was really young I remember always using cassettes and VHS tapes.
