And it fooled me very well until I clicked on the thumb.
That's quite the piece of art you have there.

  5. .Tromas (23 months ago | reply)

Ok you are now my hero...but you need to put a piece of masking tape on it and write 'Nathan's Mix' across it if you want to be really old school:)

  6. ƒernald (23 months ago | reply)

    I was fooled.
    Amazing idea, and perfectly done!

  7. Catsy [CC] (23 months ago | reply)

    Blink.

Ya. Fooled by the thumb. But it was Nathan posting it so I knew I had to click through.

I kid. Really well done man!

    radical cassette tape is radical

Dude I thought it was real from the thumb. I mean I saw the holes and thought, "there's no way he pulled that off in Lego."

    You, sir, are amazing.

  11. />ylan/>. (23 months ago | reply)

Wow! Luckily I'm just old enough to still remember these things ;)

You know what's awful is finding old mix tapes in a drawer or something and then realizing you don't even have anything to play them on! It's like a little mystery!

  14. -Tayasuune- (23 months ago | reply)

Heh, I found a floppy disk the other day, like one of the giant original floppy disks. I had no clue what it was, had to look it up.

I wish I could find some of my old mix tapes because just the other day I was driving to work and I realized that my car has a cassette deck in it! I have owned the car since 2004 and never really noticed. Obviously I knew it was there, but just never really thought about it...but it made me miss mix tapes. Kids nowadays are going to miss out on the joys of sitting in your room for 2 hours recording a mix tape. Burning a CD, or even worse, making a playlist on you iPod just doesn't have the same charm!

  16. Proudlove (23 months ago | reply)

Yep, I kept most of my old tapes. I still pull them out once in a while for nostalgia's sake. Mix tapes are the best, but man they sound awful. Some of my music was obscure enough to only have been released on cassette. I'm especially glad that I've held on to those.

Oh that's some straight up magical lego heresy. I thought from the thumbnail it was real. Nice one good sir. XD

  18. peterlmorris (23 months ago | reply)

I think getting the levels right was the hardest part, especially if you were recording from two different sources. I hated getting a tape that had huge volume swings in it!

Yeah I hear that. Even with the good ol' Dolby NR button mashed, the hiss was just terrible. I had a tape deck in my car 'till I wrecked it in 99, but that thing was just a receiver for the discman converter thingamabob. Man did it suck when the tape player didn't want to 'read' that thing.

    Well done.

Reverse building of this will be a challenge.

As many others, I was fooled by the thumb, thinking 'why is there a tape picture in the LEGO group !?' ^^ Excellent work !

  22. .Tromas (23 months ago | reply)

LOL!! 'discman converter thingamabob'...I totally forgot about those!!! You gotta love transitional technology like that eh?!

  23. baronsat (23 months ago | reply)

    Wow, GIANT! ;>)

Remember me the 80's when the walkman was the top of technology.

Now do a VHS tape! Or, that failing, a large pencil to stick in this cassette's holes.

  32. wunztwice (23 months ago | reply)

    Dude, memory lane or what?!?!

RE: mixtapes, I even remember making a mix off the radio. Talk about old-school piracy...

  33. Scruffy Mynxbane (23 months ago | reply)

    ^i did that :D

  34. .Tromas (23 months ago | reply)

haha old school piracy FTW...I used to watch Electric Circus every week on Much Music and put my ghetto blaster up to my TV speaker and record it. I would have the door to my room closed and have a sign taped on it that read 'Quiet! Recording In Session'. I really wanted to get a red light bulb installed that I could turn on instead, but my parents wouldn't go for it :)

    thanks to remind !

there's no problem, you've used a different way to make it, I've build it form down to up and you from left to right ;)

My ten year old niece hops in her great uncle's car the other day, picks up a cassette and says, "What's this thing?" After we laugh, with no small trace of wistfulness, we explain it to her and she says, "oh yeah, it was called a....... a Tape!" Like she's trying to remember a slide rule or an adz or something. Just thought i'd share for those of us who might not realize we're officially old.

  37. Kryiptuun (23 months ago | reply)

I just think it's funny how many kids have no idea what a cassette is. When I was really young I remember always using cassettes and VHS tapes.
