It's been a while since our beloved dslr evolved and turned into cameras.
They've proven to be very efficient within this exercise, but some people may find them hard to handle
Ever since they weren't made up for this purpose in the first place, a few brands have developed rigs in order to improve them.

A few months ago, I talked about the Zacuto Crossfire. This time, I'll give you a slight overview of the Light Craft Workshop offer.

The rig is quite similar to its rival : An entirely modular set.
Every single element is independent, meaning that you can manage them according to your need.
To go further, the standard diameter of the bars allow you to add elements from other brands.

The main asset of the Lcw Rig is its cost : Usually, the price of a complete set ranges from 2000 to 3500$.
This one will relieve you of 950$.

Let's take a closer look at the different parts of the set.
The rig is composed of a shoulder mount, two handles in front, a third handle on top, a follow focus, a matte box and a small magic arm.

Despite the - more than two times lower - price, this rig isn't put ashamed against its rivals.
The ensemble is sturdy, solid. It inspires confidence. The different pieces are easy to mount and will no't move once secured.
More : The modular parts makes this set particularly versatile. From shoulder mounted rig, it can turn into a cage, or simply be used bare plate with the follow focus on a tripod.

While we're talking about it, the follow focus is also very easy to set up.
There was not a single compatibility issue during the test, no matter the length of the lens.
The toothed ring is a joy to install. The only thing you'll have to do is to push it into a small plastic attachment. There's no need for tools.

However, the wheel is a bit hard. Less fluid than its concurrent, it can feel a little harsh at some points.
Still, the dash of the photo lense's focusing ring is quite short. This imperfection shouldn't therefore be a big issue.

The handles are comfortable and easy to guide.

The shoulder mount, to me, is the biggest downside.
It would have been great to have a counterweight on the back, a thick padding, or simply a longer contact zone.
All the weight is quickly shifted forward to the two handles, making an extended use quite tiring.

Last detail : It's not possible to lock entirely the barn doors of the matte box in position.
Big movements will easily make them turn around.

As a conclusion, considering the price, this set is more handy, reassuring and complete than most other big brands offers.
It's possible to live with the few defaults. In the worst case, the disturbing parts could be replaced by elements of other brands.

Pros :
+ Modularity
+ Price

Cons :
- The follow focus is a bit harsh
- Barn doors can't be totally blocked.
- Quite uncomfortable shoulder mount

Two concerts, one festival and then a quote in a row. Work is slowly killing me.

I bet you recognized the famous station of Liège-Guillemins, didn't you ?
Every time I come to this city, I end up shooting a different part of the station before I take back my train home.

The architecture there is very unique. Though some may think it's quite a weird idea to build up such an open place in a country as chilly as Belgium.
Most people were waiting for the first ride to Brussels, right after the Transardentes festival. It was damn cold, so people took refuge in the only warm accessible spots : The elevators and the bank. Such a funny sight.

Thirty minutes later, everyone fell asleep in the cozy train. One more uncommon scenery.
I just love these kinda unconventional, rare moments.
