Meditate
|
One of the things that I really want to
do this year is slow down a little bit,
take more walks, enjoy the color,
texture, and knitted images of this
corner of my world. I have felt for a
long time that everything I do is for a
reason, a specified project, an end.
That is part of the nature of commercial
art, and there is nothing wrong with
that, but I miss the living, breathing
process of creating fine art.
So I’m starting a photography project,
and I don’t know where it will lead.
Each week I will turn inward for a few
moments, meditate, on a recent
photograph, and move it forward in some
way, into a space that is fluid. My hope
is that at the end of this year I will
have 52 meditations, studies of color,
layer, texture, shape, typography.
Although a new project may seem
counterproductive to slowing down, I
hope that it will help me to use some of
my time to ponder. On color, texture,
and image, alone. To be with a piece for
awhile, and appreciate it for its
presence, rather than hurrying to its
finish. To move in a direction that I
may not have had reason to move in
otherwise. Maybe it will not, and I will
abandon it. Time will tell, and we shall
see.
I hope you enjoy these small moments of
time with me.
