Colonel Jefferson C. Phillips, 13th VA Calvary, CSA

Commander of Old Dominion Dragoons. Under orders from General Magruder, Phillips put the town of Hampton to the torch on August 7, 1861. Tucker's Cemetery, First Black Family, 1619

Resting place of William Tucker the first African-American child, on record to be born in the American colonies. Son of 'indentured servants' Anthony and Isabella. He was born at Jamestown, Virginia in 1624, baptized there and was sold at Fort Point Comfort (Fort Monroe) to a sea captain named William Tucker (his namesake).
