At the time, the gas masks made me particularly nervous. They made me wonder if there were imminent plans to lob tear gas. But I have to admit, the cops behaved themselves & never tried to interfere with the proceedings. (At any point I saw, at least.)

I wonder if the proliferation of digi-cams keeps them honest. In years past, any controversy was one person's word against another. But it's not as easy to misbehave when 200 cameras could be pointed at you at the drop of a hat.
