Blessed Trinity R.C. Church

Buffalo, NY

Uploaded by: Margaret Dick

Blessed Trinity RC Church, Buffalo, NY. Architects: Oakley and Schallmo. A true replication of 12th century Lombard-Romanesque architecture, “Made in the U.S.A.” Built in a working class neighborhood by local tradesmen using American made materials on the eve of the Great Depression (1923-28); features hand-made, unmolded bricks laid in irregular courses; extensive use of terra cotta for both structural and decorative purposes, including medieval iconographic depiction of thousands of Biblical symbols; largest and finest use of barrel vaulting in Buffalo; and a Great Dome set in an octagonal box topped with a cupola. Paid for and maintained by working class parishioners for almost 90 years.
