Tilt Exposé

Game volume adjustment

Tilt Exposé by Adam Preble.
Vince (and my dad) asked about how the tilt sensor works; here it is. Remarkably simple: when the free-moving bell/cone hits the ring, the game detects a tilt (it acts as a switch, completing the circuit). Its sensitivity (which seems to be set pretty liberally) can be adjusted by moving the bell up and down the rod.

There is another switch in the game consisting of a weight on the end of a metal spring switch. I suspect this is also part of sensing tilt, as this one wouldn’t detect you lifting the machine very well.

Very simple, very nice! It seems a better solution, especially with the adjustment option, than one I saw that consisted of a cage containing a ball bearing and metal contact posts.

Oddly enough my Whirlwind is missing its tilt bell, maybe the previous owner removed it to cheat a little! Nice picture, I wondered how this empty plate was supposed to work as the diagram in my manual illustrates.
