This is my Dad equalizing (hammering the ball into the top part of the net) for Newcastle United in the Fairs Cup Final in 1969 in Hungary against Ujpest Dozsa. The Fairs Cup is now the UEFA Cup. The original
This is an article from the Danish paper B.T. with a large photo of my Mom and Dad and me on top. The text says "Little Preben on top" and refers to the fact that my Dad was a somewhat small built football player compared to his teammates from Wales, England and Scotland.
The text says "Arentoft's success grows every day" and is from the Danish paper Ekstra Bladet. The original.
The text reads "Danish soccer can be proud of this man" and refers to the time when my dad was the first Danish professional soccer player in the UK. The original.
Some stats on his games on the national Danish soccer team (in Danish). He is even mentioned on the Danish Wikipedia - Yay !! BBC has two RealMedia clips from the games on this page. In the first clip from the 1. leg of the final the commentator
mentions my dad's name a couple of times as he plays the ball in the
buildup of two of the goals. I love it. The second clip shows the team collecting the cup on the pitch in
Hungary.
Very cool! Know him well. Nice one. My grandad played keeper for Swindon FC and four matches for Arsenal back in the 20's. His scrapbook is still in England, but I'd better get a hold of it soon and get it scanned in! :-)
Here is your dad's statistic page on DBU (Danish Football Union)s website: dbu.dk/lbase/playerInfo.aspx?playerid=3180 You can see precisely which 9 matches he played for Denmark by clicking on the '9'
Yeah, I've often used that DBU link to confuse and intimidate co-workers before work footie tournaments. My dad and I share names. We're both called Preben (sigh). I thought my Dad was the first Danish professional in English football, but clearly not. Or is your grandad British ? Hope you get the scrapbook scanned :-)
Thought you should try out this World Cup game I produced for DR: dr.dk/mand/da/konkurrencen/index.asp Click on Start spillet... Takes about ten minutes. Watch clips and answer the questions. :-)

:-) I'm not sure Kings of Europe is a popular book but it looks good.

Tiny spelling error: Ujpest Dozsa (Uj = new, Pest = the eastern half of Budapest). Ujpest is the North-Eastern part of Budapest in fact.
