    Destrehan Plantation was established in 1787 and remains the oldest documented plantation home in the lower Mississippi River Valley. This was one of the many slave cabins that were on the 8 miles of property. The primary things farmed were indigo and sugar. The slaves at Destrehan plantation were allowed to earn their own money, grow their own crops and raise their own livestock. Destrehan was the epicenter for the largest slave revolt in US history before the civil war,
