Thanks all! omnia - yeah, getting it all in was hard. I
couldn't go back any further (or I'd be on
the golf course) so I had to think hard about
the framing. Thinking back now, I should have
taken a second shot and stiched it together
:)

Congratulations! This image is currently

The quality of light here is just perfect;
there's a silky quality to the image that
brings out the curves and twists of the tree.
The colors, too, are appropriately earthy and
woody. Beautifully done.

Stable composition, good capture on its
scale.
I would love to see you try another
approach besides ordinary framing. Tree shots
are hard to be taken creatively.

What an impressive picture. The way you
dealed with light and shadows is very clever,
because you gave the entire composition a
sensation of calm and freshness, since we can
feel like being lying under the tree, on the
shadows, in a reflexive mood.
The fact that we can see many details of
the tree make it even more interesting. It's
not just a tree shot, but it's a shot where
subtle and delicate forms can be found
everywhere.
If I would ever be skilled enough to do
something like that, I wouldn't change
anything. And, technically, it's perfect.

I like the subject but I don't like the soft
effect that much. I would prefere more
sharpness and maybe even a bit more contrast.
The picture is rather dark in some areas and
looses some detail there.

I think this is a beautiful tree but it gets
a bit lost in its surroundings. For me, I
think it would have been more interesting to
get the camera close to the ground and close
it more on the roots. The lighting seems
very challenging and you seem to have handled
it well.

Having just taken a bunch of shots in similar
conditions, I'm impressed by what you've done
here. The bright patches on the left are
still a bit much -- I don't think there's
anything you can do about them, though. I
can see what you're going for with the
softness, but it's not the direction I would
have gone. Also, what is that thing in the
crook of the tree? It looks like something
sitting in there, but maybe it's part of the
tree?

I like this composition in that it emphasizes
the similar shapes of the roots and branches.
There is a huge amount of detail here. The
image has a very "painterly" feel
to it. This is a very nice exposure of a
very interesting tree.

Very interesting subject, great lighting,
overall a nicely composed shot. On the other
hand, I'm not sure about the soft focus.

This one has a nice shape for capturing as a
photo subject (flowing, but still relatively
compact) - sometimes the fig trees are so
sprawling that they do not readily lend
themselves to a discrete or concise image
like this...
And I like the framing of the shot - I do
not think that inclusion of any more of the
canopy is necessary for it to be a
successful, balanced composition.
