Aix en Provence was the playground of Cezanne; his inspiration and his muse. And its understandable why. Small without inducing claustrophobia, large without being mundane – the town is perfect for tourists and artists alike. And the historical city centre is so beautifully conserved– old and new, ancient and modern, galleries and pubs – all coming together in an eclectic mix.
One of the most distinguishing features of the city however remains its fountains, and none is grander or more imposing that the Rotunda. But then again, with lions guarding its gates, can we be surprised?
