Windward panorama, from the Pali, Oahu

This is taken from near the top of the crest of the mountainous ridge that separates Honolulu from the heavily populated north side of the island of Oahu, We're looking to the west/northwest; Honolulu is behind where we were standing, to the south. "Pali" in Hawai'ian means "cliff."

You're right--it's not Fargo! My sister lives in Honolulu, so we were visiting. Beautiful place, but actually it was almost too warm for us there....

A circular polarizer works to eliminate reflections. If you have ever had polarized sunglasses it is the same kind of effect. You can only use it if you have a DSLR as they are a filter that screws to the front of the lens. For skys it can help depen the blue and really make the clouds stand out. It is blocking the reflection of the UV rays in the atmosphere at that point.
