The Mountain

Take a look at my new website

Mount Rainier seen from the Pinnacle Peak Trail

I posted a black & white version a while back; I took forever to make a color edit of this that I liked...anyway, I'm mostly happy with this, despite the skyline looking a bit (IMO) overdone. This is a single exposure, no blending or HDR was involved.
View On Black

I took this shot about 5 minutes after stumbling into Marc Adamus who kindly directed me to the gorgeous Avalanche Lilies.

lol. Indeed they were. This trail had an tremendous population of small flies, the likes of which I had previously only seen in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area in northern Minnesota. I paid a (very itchy) blood price for this photo...

Strong square composition with a beautiful balance and contrast between the tiny flowers in the foreground and the distant mountain in the background. Straight fave!

This is amazing. You should be really happy with the colour edit - not an easy shot, with the different extremes of light, but it is all balanced beautifully here.

what a gorgeous shot right there! this was a focus guess?! amazing! :D

  44. posthumus_cake (www.pinnaclephotography.net) (22 months ago | reply)

It was more composition guess. I knew how I wanted everything lined up, but I couldn't see through the viewfinder, so I had to chimp my way to the shot I wanted. The focusing (at 17mm and f/11) was a manual estimation...I wanted everything between infinity and about 8 inches to be in focus, so I think I manually set the focus for about 10 feet and hoped for the best. If this shot were not UWA, that focusing "technique" would not have worked very well.

I saw your posts on CR and love your photography. I love this photo. I'm stuck living in Southern California, having grown up in Washington. I love Northwest scenery and really appreciate all your photos.
