This is a tan wool blanket that came home with me after 3 years in Berlin and about a year on train duty. I was stationed at Andrews Barracks with the 287th MP CO, West Berlin, 1981-1984. I was on train duty 1981-1982. It was 12 hour ride leaving Berlin and riding to Frankfurt by rail through East Germany. We stopped at the Russian Checkpoint Marienborne and at Helmstedt, West Germany. The rail MP's would sleep during the day at Frankfurt MP barracks, then ride back to West Berlin again the next night. I just remember the Frankfurt train staion bahnhof to be a place where you find a lot of interesting people. Blankets are in pretty good condition for not seeing the light of day for 30 years.
GSD - German Sleeper and Dining Car Company. Apparently the corporate design on these blankets "frozen goose" or gefriergans (head of an eagle over a four-wheel spoke in an oval design) was discontinued in 1971. These must have been older blankets remaining left over on the Duty Train in 1981.
