Tanjore Shiva temple grandeur makes it one of the most beautiful in south India. after visiting Kancheepuram, Chidambaram and Thiravarur temples, I found it even more beautiful because of the spaciousness as most of the temple are built like a fortresses with walls inside the walls architecture.
this is the main entrance to the temple. you can find more details about the temple here --> en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brihadeeswarar_Temple
the time we did the road trip was somehow special. from the first day itself we spotted many groups of women in red and yellow sarees and men in black yes. though I am not much sure, I think they are Ayyappa Swamy followers, women perhaps a goddess. ( I need to look in to my old notes somewhere for name) here are few details thought i could'nt find much details about this pad-yatra on internet - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ayyappan
However, this is somewhat similar to Kaanwar Yatra that happens twice but most significantly in July-August month of Lord Shiva in North india, starting from anywhere to be concluded in Hardiwar in which People walk in groups, barefoot, carrying a Kanwar/Kavad, singing bhajans, resting at camps organized by other devotees.
